First Week In Australia

First day in Brisbane (sweat pants for two days!)
Hey everyone,

We finally figured out the blog after our first week here...so here goes! :) We flew into Brisbane on a 30 hour flight but got lots of sleep on the plane so no jet lag as far as we could tell.  Our baggage was delayed for two days, but the airline gave us each $100 to buy clothes (bet they didn't think we could wear the same track pants for 3 days!).

Brisbane was fun, met Timmy (Meg's friend from uni) the first night, explored the city and tried out his favourite mix of cheap wine (called Goon), vodka and pop, gross! Next day, Dev and I took the bus out to Mount Coot-tha to a lookout point and checked out the botanical gardens (which looked like the jungle from Jurassic Park).

Our dream castle - complete with moat.
Met up with Timmy again at his place on the Gold Coast the next day and just chilled by the pool which was sweet. His place is like a resort, much unlike both of our uni res experiences! Went to the beach the next day and built a pretty lame sandcastle. That night, we ended up making a readymade lasagna (which tasted like canned ravioli) and having a law and order marathon. :)

At Bondi Beach in Sydney

In Sydney near the Opera House.
Sydney the next day for two nights, met Timmy again the first night and did a pub crawl.  Pretty funny, had a party bus that took us from club to club but we didn't make it to the last bar, got McDee's instead, which they call Macca's here :) Next day, we headed to Bondi Beach for a 6km coastal walk ending at Coogee Beach, so tired but cool and then a walking tour and pints the next day.

In Canberra at Parliament House (Australian Capital).
Broke my camera on the way to Canberra, I'm sure everyone will be shocked to hear :) so picked up a new one today.  Staying in Canberra has been really nice, staying with Kirsty and Mark (friends of Dev's from Huntsville), checked out the Parliament building and art gallery (everything's free here!) and saw like twenty kangaroos on the way home from dinner last night!!

Back to Sydney tomorrow to pick up our campervan rental, going to take it to the Blue Mountains and then up the coast back to Brisbane, so will probably be a bit before another post.  See you soon!!

  1. Looks like fun. Enjoy.
Don't forget to send Auntie a postcard. (Actually you don't have to send it if you don't want, just give it to me when you see me next year.
I am so shocked that you broke your camera, that really isn't you (lol).

  4. Do you have a permit for that castle? I don't know if it looks structurally sound. I hope you sold while the price was high. I'm sad I missed your going away and I hope you find that dream brisket you've been looking for and know that everyone still doing this stupid thing called work in Canada is insanely jealous that you two had the stones to take a chance and do something truly awesome. I'll be living vicariously through your blog so keep it coming.
